Course Description

This program introduces students to legal and ethical issues related to the healthcare setting. This course provides an overview of the laws and professional requirements that regulate the delivery of healthcare, including HIPAA, the Patient's Bill of Rights, and standard of care. Students will also gain an understanding of the ethical and moral issues that health care professionals may encounter. The course is a self-paced, online course. It is most appropriate for those seeking entry into the health care field and for incumbent workers planning for advancement. Please note: Course of study may be completed earlier than indicated.

Outcome

The course objectives include:

  • Analyze issues of law and ethics as related to health care
  • Determine the similarities and differences among legal, ethical, and moral issues in health care
  • Analyze the impact that local, state, and federal legislation have on practices found in health care
  • Compare the rights and responsibilities of various parties of the health care system
  • Analyze the importance of complying with laws that regulate the practice of health care

Assessment

This is a self-directed course of study that contains quizzes, practice lessons, and a final exam.
